Enjoy the first sweet taste of Spring in Maine. Somerset County, in the heart of our region, produces more maple syrup than any other county in the United States. Join Maine’s maple producers each on the fourth Sunday in March as they celebrate Maine Maple Sunday . This is the day when sugar makers around the state open the doors of their sugarhouses to the public to join them in their rites of spring – making maple syrup.
Most sugarhouses offer free tastings and live demonstrations on how syrup is produced from tap to table. Many offer a variety of other treats and activities, including syrup on pancakes or ice cream, sugar bush tours, and sleigh or wagon rides.
